Donald Trump Exposed As Former Meryl Streep Stan: ‘[She] Is Excellent’
Donald Trump made headlines once again when he railed against renowned actress Meryl Streep, who called out the president-elect's bullying tactics during the 2017 Golden Globe Awards with a measured, thoughtful speech. Trump retaliated by referring to the three-time Oscar-winner via Twitter as "one of the most over-rated actresses in Hollywood," but less than two years ago he, like everyone else, was singing Streep's praises.
During a lengthy 2015 cover story with The Hollywood Reporter, Trump was asked to list his favorite actors. After naming six men (Clint Eastwood, Robert Duvall, Marlon Brando, Cary Grant, Errol Flynn and Clark Gable -- for the record), Trump was only able to come up with two women he admired.
"Julia Roberts is terrific, and many others," he said. "Meryl Streep is excellent; she's a fine person, too."
He then noted, "The problem is I'll name three or four or five and then the hundred that I know will be insulted, and I don't mean to insult them."
Since her speech, Hollywood has largely rallied around Streep, who eloquently pushed for empathy, inclusivity and the acceptance of "foreigners" and "outsiders," while also calling for the press and the public to hold those in power accountable for their actions.
