Drake, King of Being Extra, Surprises Rihanna With Billboard to Celebrate Her 2016 MTV VMAs Win
Just get married already, you two!
Rihanna celebrates a milestone this weekend when she becomes the recipient of the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, a prestigious honor that has also been received by icons like Britney Spears, Madonna and Justin Timberlake. And if there's one person possibly more excited about this worthy feat than RiRi herself, it's her biggest fan: Drake.
As a special surprise for the Anti pop star, Drake purchased a billboard in Los Angeles and had it inscribed with a congratulatory shout out. "Congratulations to Rihanna from Drake and everyone at [his label] Ovo," the sign reads.
After getting wind of Drake's very public display of affection, the "Love on the Brain" singer shared a photo of the massive gift on Instagram, writing, "When he extra!!!"
In addition to receiving the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award when the MTV VMAs air from New York City on Sunday, August 28, Rihanna will also open the show with a medley of "the biggest tracks of her career."
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, VMAs executive producer Jessa Ignjatovic confirmed the opening performance, teasing, "I can tell you it’s going to be one of those holy crap VMA moments. She's not playing. She's bringing it."
