When we think of modern holiday classics, ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’ by Mariah Carey automatically starts playing in our heads along with a mental screening of the Will Ferrell comedy ‘Elf.’ It’s hard to believe that the movie was released in 2003, making it more than 10 years old, because it still manages to hold up so well today. You’ve undoubtedly seen it an inordinate amount of times, but we’re pretty sure there are quite a few things you didn’t know about the movie.

Our pals over at ScreenCrush have sampled an extensive list of some unknown facts about the Christmas classic that even the most die-hard ‘Elf’ viewer might not know. For example: Remember Ralphie from ‘A Christmas Story’? The actor, Peter Billingsley, actually had a cameo in ‘Elf’ as Buddy’s supervisor.

Then there’s the whole matter of a possible part two. Considering how successful ‘Elf’ was and how overrun with sequels Hollywood is, it’s kind of a shock that we never got a full ‘Elf’ film franchise out of the movie. The reason? Will Ferrell reportedly turned down a $29 million offer and is quoted as saying, “I just think it would look slightly pathetic if I tried to squeeze back in the elf tights.”

Find out more cool facts like who was originally attached to play Buddy the Elf, what film inspired the elves’ costumes and what happened on the last day of filming.
