Emma Thompson Recalls How Donald Trump Once Asked Her Out on a Date
Emma Thompson clearly has higher standards than the American electoral college.
While appearing on a Swedish news show this week, the British actress revealed that she once turned down an offer to go on a date with Donald Trump.
Speaking to SVT, the Beauty and the Beast star (who plays Mrs. Potts in the live action film) explained how Trump called her in 1998 to ask her out—specifically to stay in Trump Tower and have dinner with him. She also revealed she passed on the, erm, golden opportunity.
While she was filming her movie Primary Colors, Thompson recalled, the "phone rings in my trailer, which it’s never done before, so it’s like a moose had just entered my trailer. I lift up the phone, 'Hi, it’s Donald Trump here.' I said, 'Really? Can I help you?'"
Thompson then shared how Trump offered her "some accommodations in one of [his] Trump Towers."
"'They’re really comfortable. I think we would get on very well, maybe we could have dinner some time,'" Trump said, according to Thompson.
In the end, however, she decided not to call him back, though she does have one regret: "I wish I had [gone on the date], think of the stories!"
