$40,688. That's how much a lock of Justin Bieber's hair sold for on eBay, reports PEOPLE. The Bieb donated the lock to Ellen DeGeneres on her TV show last week and told her to auction it off to the charity of her choice.

As of six days ago, the bidding was already up to $7,000. But the bids kept coming, and the lock of love nabbed a generous winning offer of $40,668. DeGeneres will donate the full sum to The Gentle Barn Foundation.

The winning bidder didn't just win a lock of the Bieb's newly shorn hair for 40 grand. He or she will also get the chance to meet the charitable singer -- who turned 17 earlier this week -- when Bieber next appears on Ellen's show. The bidder is getting more bang for his or her $40,000 bucks, that's for sure.

Bieber downplayed his birthday this year, spending quality time with his grandparents. His world tour kicks of March 4 in Birmingham, England.
