Have you ever blamed a celebrity for tricking you into buying a product they were selling, which is part of their job? One Kanye West fan has, and now he’s suing him because something Kanye wrote on the Internet turned out to be untrue.

Justin Baker-Rhett signed up for Jay Z’s poorly performing music streaming service Tidal after Kanye emphatically announced his latest album The Life of Pablo would "never never never" be available elsewhere.

That turned out to be incorrect, because The Life of Pablo is currently up for streaming across multiple platforms, including Apple Music and Spotify. Kanye even posted a link -- weeks after TLOP dropped -- to his official website, where fans could purchase the album. This all proved to be a major point of contention for Baker-Rhett, who brought a lawsuit against Kanye, accusing him of tricking fans into purchasing Tidal subscriptions to help the struggling business stay afloat. He claims, in part, that Kanye “fraudulently induced millions of American consumers into paying for Tidal’s rescue.”

It’s true that Kanye’s Tidal exclusive did give the site a significant boost in both streams and subscribers, the latter of which jumped from 1 million to 2.5 million following TLOP's release, according to a report from TMZ. That's part of the reason why Baker-Rhett has taken issue with the album's multi-platform reach.

"We fully support the right of artists to express themselves freely and creatively, however creative freedom is not a license to mislead the public,” wrote Baker-Rhett’s lawyer in a statement via the LA Times. "We believe that we will be able to prove to a jury that Mr. West and Tidal tricked millions of people into subscribing to their services and that they will ultimately be held accountable for what they did.”

Have you ever had buyer's remorse? Did it move you to lash out against a celebrity and sue them for a decision you made entirely of your own free will? Are you a Tidal subscriber? Let us know in the comments below.
