Katy Perry not only tastefully graces the cover of Elle's March issue which hits stands Feb. 15, but the pop star and newlywed opens up about a myriad of subjects in her accompanying interview -- ranging from her talent to her look to her relatable persona.

In her cover shot, Perry is sporting a uncharacteristically tailored ensemble. While her outfit boasts her signature bright color palette in the form of a green blazer and royal purple slacks, the fabric choices and cuts are muted. There's no spandex or latex here! Perry looks grown up and judging from her well thought out comments in the article, Perry is wise beyond her year without sacrificing her fun, "cool girl" vibe.

“I think that people now see that I’m more than just a one-trick-pony sexy girl," the singer says about her current status. "I have a lot more to bring to the table. I’m trying to give people music that they can hopefully adopt as a soundtrack to their lives -- songs that speak to a whole range of emotions.”

Today, Perry is one of the biggest pop stars on the planet, but that status did not come easy. Perry admits she even gave herself an ultimatum as a struggling artist bouncing checks and ruining her credit, saying, "I had two cars repossessed, and I was writing bad checks, but I gave myself a timeline. I thought, 'Okay, if I don’t make it by 25, I’m just going to get married and pop out some babies and do some crafts.'"

She has made it, big time, at the age of 26, but the desire to "pop out some babies" has not been extinguished. "I want to have kids!" Perry adds. "I’m totally fine with saying that. I think some people are scared because they’re worried it’s going to ruin their career, but I want to live a full life.” So don't rule out the possibility of a baby bump in Perry's near future. Can you imagine what kind of dad hubby-comedian Russell Brand will be?

Overall, though, Perry believes that she connects with such a wide audience because of what she puts out into the universe -- specifically her incredibly down-to-earth attitude. “It’s important to be relatable and normal. And I think that what helps with that, for me, is that I had the rug pulled out from underneath my feet so many times. It was like, ‘Listen up, b----, you’re not going to get served this on a silver platter  -- you’ve got to work for it!’ I don’t feel like I can act like an entitled b---- yet! I still have so much to prove.”

While Perry's anthems 'California Gurls' and 'Firework' are all over radio and have been for the past year-and-a-half, she feels she has staying power, but hardly considers herself the D-word. "I feel like I’m at a point in my life right now where I could potentially stick around," the singer says. "I don’t feel like a diva, but I think diva is a great and powerful word in the sense of what Beyonce makes it. And maybe I can’t be Beyonce, but maybe I can be Cyndi Lauper. I mean be like her, not be her. That would just be weird.”

Perry, who describes her current, adventurous look “Bettie Page meets Wonder Woman meets Doris Day meets Judy Jetson meets Natalie Wood meets Daphne Guinness meets Chloë Sevigny,” is also adamant about the fact that women can achieve the perfect balance between life and work. She's living proof. “I think you can have it all," she declares. "You just have to work really hard, because great things don’t come easily. Everyone’s been told that marriage is hard work, and it is: You have to make time for the things you love.”
