Katy Perry gave Rebecca Black's 'Friday' new legs when she covered the viral hit on Thursday at her Melbourne, Australia concert. In a video clip of the performance, the pop star mockingly introduces the song as if she were telling a children's story.

"So I can't play the flute," Perry says to the audience before launching into the cover. "But it doesn't really matter. You know why? Because all magical things happen on a Friday."

Perry and her band kicked off a slowed down, acoustic version of the song to which fans cheerfully sang along. Naturally, the California native encouraged audience participation during the chorus, and the audience was more than happy to oblige.

Since its release, the video for 'Friday' has amassed over 127 million views on YouTube, and in March, Billboard reported that the song was earning roughly $24,000 per week in single sales. The song has also been covered by Nick Jonas, incorporated into a We the Kings video and parodied by dozens of people on YouTube.

"I'm so glad that someone wrote a song about Friday," Perry adds after her short rendition of the tune. "Finally."
