Katy Perry Calls ‘Swish Swish’ Her Anti-Bully Anthem
Is "Swish Swish" a diss track? Not necessarily, according to Katy Perry.
Sitting down on The Tonight Show Friday, May 19, the pop star dished on her latest track, which features Nicki Minaj, with host Jimmy Fallon.
When Fallon coyly asked Perry if the track was "about anyone we know," the Witness singer simply said, "I think it's a great anthem for people to use whenever someone is trying to hold you down or bully you. That's kinda what this record is about."
"This represents the liberation from all the negative that doesn't serve you," she added.
Meanwhile, not everyone—cough, Ruby Rose, cough—is convinced that "Swish Swish," which features the scathing lyrics "Your game is tired, you should retire / You’re ’bout as cute as an old coupon expired / Karma’s not a liar, she keeps receipts," is all that empowering—or that it's not about the "Bad Blood" between Perry and Taylor Swift.
