Kendall and Kylie Jenner have a powerful effect on a lot of people. Their subscription-based apps move fans to pay for a curated peek into their world, and the siblings' friendship with Balmain's Olivier Rousteing likely fed the already-formidable buzz around his H&M collection, leading to insane shopper frenzy. Even if you share comedian Rebel Wilson's irritation over the fact that "they're not famous for talent," their influence is indisputable — and if you're still in denial, we offer the below video as proof.

This week the sisters staged a meet-and-greet in Parramatta, a suburb of Sydney, Australia, to promote their new fashion line for Australian retailer Forever New. While the Sydney Morning Herald reports that the mall-based event was initially marred by some young prankster boys lobbing eggs, nothing could dampen fans' enthusiasm — some of them camping for 48 hours in hopes of meeting the reality stars.

"Some happiness can only be expressed in tears and shrills," a reporter for 7 News Sydney narrates over footage of crying women who appear to be around Kendall and Kylie's age, amid a din that's typically reserved for pop stars and A-list movie actors.

"That was the best moment of my life," raves one starstruck devotee on the verge of tears, as her friend adds, "we've been here for two days!" The fan — who's either prone to hyperbole or possesses a psychic gift that long foretold Kendall and Kylie's eventual ascent to fame — continued, "I've been waiting for this moment my whole life. Oh my god." She grabs her head, still grappling with the heady rush of a bona fide Jenner encounter.

As easy (and fun) as it can be to laugh at young girls' visceral response to something — or somebody — that's dismissed as silly by adults, it's helpful to remember that most of us cared deeply about something fairly trivial when we were younger. I was personally never part of a boy band fandom, but my father took me to see Sweetums from the Muppets when I was 5 and I nearly fainted. I nearly fainted at a man in a fake-fur suit, and there's nothing wrong with that, because what is a life without passion?

Watch the video for yourself below, and try to define exactly what it is about Kylie and Kendall that evokes such allegiance to their brand, because anything this mass-scale compelling is worth further examination. Is it because they look glam-team perfect at all times? Does the fact that they've lived much of their life on-camera make them feel like old friends to those who follow them? There aren't rhetorical questions — I'm genuinely dying to know.
