March: What a magical time! As we inch toward spring, the jackets we leave the house in get lighter, as do our moods. And as this year's relatively-mild winter recedes from our collective memory, it's also a big month for sports fandom. During March Madness, even the most casual college basketball fans get swept up in tournament fever, and at least one acquaintance will ask you if you'd like to "fill out a bracket" regardless of whether you've ever indicated a passing interest in the game. But we get more excited about another face-off: A battle of the fans.

In this Round 1 matchup, who will emerge victorious: Lady Gaga's loyal Little Monsters, or Beyonce's unwavering BeyHive?

Lady Gaga's had, in some ways, her biggest year yet. Her role as The Countess on American Horror Story: Hotel earned her a Golden Globe for Best Actress In a Limited Series. She opened this year's Super Bowl, singing the National Anthem in a glittery red suit, and her tribute to the late David Bowie was a centerpiece of the 2016 Grammys. She nabbed a Best Original Song nomination at this year's Oscars for "Til It Happens To You," a song co-written with Diane Warren for the campus rape documentary The Hunting Ground, and delivered an emotional performance of the song that was introduced by Vice President Joe Biden and saw Gaga joined by real sexual assault survivors. And that's just a list of her major accomplishments this year.

Beyonce, meanwhile, has (thankfully) returned to us after a relatively quiet 2015, with more to come. She dropped "Formation," a song with a video that's rich with both political symbolism and iconic Bey-style looks, just ahead of her dazzling appearance at the Super Bowl halftime show alongside Coldplay and Bruno Mars. The minor controversy sparked by her bold performance was not quite as loud as the FANdemonium incited by a televised announcement of her Formation Tour that same night. And tour-goers will likely hear more new music at the show, as recent rumors hint at not one but *two* albums in 2016, including one with husband Jay Z. We're not worthy — but we'd definitely take it.

So, who will it be: Gaga or Bey? Feel free to watch the "Telephone" video over and over again until you decide, just weighing your options as you wring your hands and grow teary over this impossible choice. Or, you know, just vote below!

Place your votes for this round of our March Music Madness tournament until March 9 at 11:59 PM, and check back after to see which group's moving on.
