Louis Tomlinson is rethinking his career following his sister Félicité's sudden death.

On Monday (April 22), the former One Direction singer revealed he had something he wanted to his off his chest just days after breaking his silence for the first time since his younger sister died of a reported heart attack in March.

In a lengthy note posted to Twitter, he opened up about the music industry and admitted that getting a No. 1 single isn't important to him anymore. Tomlinson also said he no longer feels as though he needs to compete with pop stars like Drake or Ariana Grande. Instead, he's focused on staying in the moment and making music he loves.

"Someone recently said something very interesting about how so many people focus on the 'end game' without enjoying the doing," he wrote. "I’ve been thinking a lot more about what success means to me. I feel like I’ve been mistranslating it for the last 3 years."

Though he didn't mention Félicité by name, Tomlinson did say the last few weeks has forced him to put "a lot of things into perspective" and redefine what success means to him.

"What I should be doing is forgetting about perception and to a certain degree worry less about being defined on commercial success," he continued. "I’m not here to compete with the likes of Drake and Ariana Grande. I’m here to make music I love and make my fans proud to say they’re a fan. Turning a page today."
