It looks like Madonna and Lady Gaga have way more in common than we thought! Celebrity genealogist Chris Child has done some digging, and apparently Gaga, 25, and Madge, 52, are distant cousins.

"When I saw that Lady Gaga had French Canadian ancestry, I thought there might be something there," Child tells the Boston Globe. "They are ninth cousins once removed." The New England Historic Genealogical Society authority found that the pop queens share two common ancestors -- a farming couple that moved from France to Quebec in the late 1600s.

Child was able to track down Gaga and Madonna's entire family history "back 200 years within minutes," since priests in Quebec kept records of all of the marriages that occurred between the 1600s and the 1900s.

It is interesting that the women share French Canadian ancestry, considering both of them are known for their strong Italian roots. Madonna was born Madonna Louise Ciccone, while Lady Gaga's real name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta.

Gaga isn't the first celebrity to be related to Madonna. Madonna and No Doubt frontwoman Gwen Stefani are also related distantly through a great aunt's mother-in-law, according to Stefani's official IMDB page. What a small world we live in!
