Madonna’s Rep Addresses Short Concert + Angry French Fans

Following an ugly incident during a Paris show last week, Madonna's camp has kept largely mum. Now her rep is breaking the silence with a response.

On Thursday night, Madge played a small Paris show that had been added to her MDNA tour schedule as a thank-you to her rabid local fan base. The concert was held at the 2,700-seat Paris’ l’Olympia, with members of her fan club getting first dibs on tickets that started at a mere (well, for a Madonna show, it's "mere") $98.

All was well until the Material Girl left the stage 45 minutes into the show and the crowd realized the concert was over -- and that's when things got nasty. The audience reportedly threw bottles at the stage and chanted “salope” -- which, for those you who are a little rusty on your French, means “slut” in the language of love.

But according to the singer's longtime rep Liz Rosenberg, it was just a big misunderstanding. Here's the statement she released on Saturday:

“Madonna’s Paris club show was planned as her heartfelt thank you to France which she expressed at the start of her show. Despite a grueling concert tour, she desperately wanted to perform for her fans in an intimate setting at the historic Olympia as a means to honor her love for French artists, French cinema and a tribute to France’s long history of welcoming and inspiring artists, authors, painters, poets and minorities from other countries over the years.

The show was not billed as her full MDNA concert and tremendous effort was made to keep the ticket prices reasonable ($100 for 2000 floor seats) and keep them strictly for her fans.

The show cost Madonna close to a million dollars to produce. She has done a handful of club dates in the past and they were never more than 45 minutes. And by the way, she put on a fabulous show which was streamed for millions of fans around the world.”

What Rosenberg left out is that the YouTube stream of the show had over 12,000 dislikes by the morning after the concert, which might (read: "definitely did") have something to do with the commenting option being mysteriously disabled shortly thereafter.

But since Madonna's antics during her MDNA tour have included bare body parts, swastikas and guns, we're guessing she'd much rather be called a "slut" than the word a lot of other people have been using to describe her lately: "desperate."
