Miley Cyrus’ Mom Tish Had Month-Long ‘Psychological Breakdown’ Before Billy Ray Divorce

Miley Cyrus’ mom had a month-long “complete psychological breakdown” before she divorced the singer’s famous dad Billy Ray Cyrus.

Tish Cyrus, 56, made the tough decision to leave country star Billy, 62, in 2020 – the same year her mom died – and she has now opened up about she left despite her two biggest fears being along and without a mother.

She told the latest episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast: “It was so crazy because, honestly, my two biggest fears in life were always being alone and my mom passing away.

“I was like, ‘I just don’t know if I’ll survive when my mom dies.’ Like, honestly.

“And I had, like, one month of a, honestly, complete psychological breakdown. It was the worst thing – like, honestly. It was not good.”

Tish added she called celebrity therapist Daniel Amen, 69, and begged him to “please put me in a mental hospital," to which she said he responded, "I do not think that’s the best thing for either of us.’”

She went on about her trauma: “I could not eat. I could not sleep. I could not stop crying. I literally weighed, like, 130.

“I don’t have my mom, and then I don’t have my husband that’s been my husband for 30 years. Like… I’m scared.”

Tish added Billy went to Tennessee during the Covid pandemic while she stayed in California where "Wrecking Ball" singer Miley, 31, lives.

She said: “[Our marriage] had not been in a good place for a long time, and I think I did stay so long out of fear – literal fear – of being alone.”

But she said her singledom was “hugely transformative."

Tish, who married Billy in 1993, had previously gone through a separation from the performer in 2010 and then 2013, but Tish said she knew their 2020 split would be for good.

She added: “[I was] looking at myself and going, ‘What in the heck are you doing?’

“And so I literally just had made that firm decision and was like, ‘I’m moving on with my life.’ And, you know what, girl? It worked out for the best.”

Tish waited two years before filing for divorce in April 2022, and both she and Billy Ray quickly moved on.

The "Achy Breaky Heart" singer got engaged to fellow musician Joanna "Firerose" Hodges that August and the couple married in October 2023.

Tish got engaged to Prison Break actor partner Dominic Purcell, 53, last April before they got hitched in August.
