Rihanna Pulls Out of the 2016 Grammys Last Minute, Reportedly Due to Illness (Update: Or Was It?)
UPDATE (2/17): TMZ is now insisting that Rihanna had a "meltdown" just before she was due to perform at the Grammys on Sunday night (February 15).
"Rihanna was screaming and hysterical before she bailed on the Grammys, but there are conflicting stories about what triggered her outburst. Sources connected with the show and several sources who were not connected but present at the show tell TMZ ... the singer was loudly expressing displeasure over her rehearsal. They say she was loud and upset and, as we first reported, bailed on the event," the site reports.
While Rihanna's camp insists she pulled out due to bronchitis, TMZ has footage of the singer performing at a Lionel Ritchie charity event just two days prior to the Grammys ceremony. The plot thickens...
Didn't catch Rihanna on the 2016 Grammys red carpet? That's because she pulled out just seconds before the show started.
While she did appear at rehearsals over the weekend for her performance (she was set to perform "Kiss It Better" off of her long-awaited studio album, ANTI) and even showed up to the Staples Center, she reportedly ditched the gig last minute due to illness.
"Sources connected to the production tell us, Rihanna has been struggling with bronchitis and is on meds. We're told a doctor on site recommended that she pull the plug on the performance because it could permanently damage her vocal cords. Our sources say Rihanna wanted to perform but reluctantly decided she had to listen to her doctors. She left Staple's and is going home," TMZ reports.
Get well soon, RiRi. Here's hoping a kiss or two will make it better.
