Here’s Why Selena Gomez Wasn’t at the Met Gala
On Monday night (May 6), celebrities from far and wide flocked to New York City to show their best "camp" inspired ensembles for this year's coveted Met Gala. Couples arrived arm in arm; some people nailed the theme, while others missed the mark. However, while the affair attracted a star-studded guest list, there were a few people notably missing. Ariana Grande had a great excuse—she was busy performing in Los Angeles and stanning over BTS' Jungkook—but where was Selena Gomez?
The pop star/singer seemed to also be in Southern California, soaking up the sun with her friends at Disneyland. She shared snapshots of her adventures on Instagram story the day before the gala, and is doing just fine despite skipping the festivities. "She’s happy, healthy and doing great," a source told Entertainment Tonight. "She’s happy to just be with friends."
The source went on to explain that though the 26-year-old is slowly taking on more professionally, she's trying to keep some space between her personal and public presence. "Selena loves what she does and she loves her fans, but she doesn’t like the pressure and expectations of being under a microscope," they said.
Last year, Gomez took a step out of the spotlight to work on herself. During a recent visit to Coach's "Dream It Real" podcast, she explained her move. "Last year, I took a lot of time off. I think that I needed a moment to myself because I do feel like I was growing and changing," she shared, adding that she's a proponent of therapy.
"I am a believer of therapy,"Gomez continued. "I think that I have had opportunities where I kinda reflect on the younger me, and I think that a lot of the times I wished that I could hug my younger self. I wish I could have done and experienced a lot of things, maybe, a little differently."
