Selena Gomez’s ‘Back to You’ Was Named as Rolling Stone’s Song of the Summer and Twitter Is Up in Arms
In May, Selena Gomez returned with "Back to You," her first new music since dropping "Wolves" in October 2017. Featuring twangy country-EDM production and airy vocals, the song effortlessly captured the pop radio trends of the moment, securing the pop star another comfortable Top 40 hit here in the U.S. — her fifteenth consecutive entry, to be precise.
Despite a quirky, memorable music video, the catchy, pleasant-but-innocuous song didn't necessarily immediately scream "song of the summer" to some listeners. Nevertheless, it's the title Rolling Stone has bestowed upon Gomez's first tune of 2018, a title that has some Selenators celebrating the social media darling...
... and has left others just perplexed, especially when songs like Cardi B and Bad Bunny's "I Like It" and Ariana Grande's triumphant comeback, "No Tears Left to Cry," are all worthy options.
As it turns out, however, "Back to You" isn't necessarily Rolling Stones' ultimate Song of the Summer 2018 — it's just one of many contenders that the publication is highlighting. So, uh, yeah... jury's still out on this one, but vote below to let us know if YOU think Selena Gomez's "Back to You" is 2018's true Song of the Summer.
