Selena Gomez Faces Surprising Criticism for Her New Latinx Song Collaboration — Here’s Why Some People Are Annoyed
DJ Snake's all-star single "Taki Taki," featuring Selena Gomez, Cardi B and Ozuna, dropped at midnight, and it's already getting tons of buzz. But with that buzz also comes some biting criticism from Latinx fans who have strong opinions on Gomez's decision to collaborate with the hitmakers.
When the song was first announced, many called Gomez out for not collaborating with Latinx artists before, accusing her of only wanting to do so now that Cardi B and Ozuna are constantly topping the charts.
But the criticism of Gomez's participation in the song didn't slow down once it came out. Instead, fans of Ozuna and Cardi B criticized Gomez for her Spanish not being on par with the others'.
To be fair, Gomez has spoken out in the past about not knowing much Spanish and wanting to learn more. The singer has sung in Spanish before, releasing a Spanish version of her 2010 song "A Year Without Rain," and did a Pantene commercial in Spanish back in 2016. But that hasn't stopped people from criticizing her for struggling to make her Spanish sound as natural as native speakers Ozuna and Cardi B.

Whether or not Selena Gomez truly deserves the criticism, at least she tried.
