Couple’s Goals? Selena Gomez + Justin Bieber Reimagined as ‘American Gothic’ (PHOTO)
Nobilified, which specializes in customized oil paintings, has recreated Grant Wood's iconic 1930 masterpiece "American Gothic," but where the original work finds a farmer —pitchfork in-hand — beside his wife (or daughter, some experts say...), the Jelena version finds The Biebs with a hockey stick in hand.
(A proud Canadian, Bieber plays weekly hockey games, and Gomez has even been known to cheer him on from the stands.)
Still, a constant between the two renderings is a pair of overalls for the leading man. Nobilified said in a statement that the choice of garb is also a joking nod to the time Bieber met Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper in 2012 while sporting a pair of his very own.
Nobilified creator Chris Jensen said that his company ensured the piece was executed correctly down to the smallest detail — even when the celeb world was changing during its creation.
“The world moves fast. We started the piece while Selena was a brunette, and, when we were close to finishing it, Selena was suddenly blonde. Who would we be, if we weren’t to give Selena’s new hairstyle—which took over nine hours to paint—the respect it deserves," he said.
Gomez and Bieber reunited in December after five years apart and a public and painful breakup. She explained in a subsequent interview with Billboard that as she gets older, she learns to value her existing bonds more significantly.
“I’m 25. I’m not 18, or 19, or 20,” she said. “I cherish people who have really impacted my life. So maybe before, it could have been forcing something that wasn’t right. But that doesn’t mean caring for someone ever goes away.”
