After taking some time away from her music career to focus on acting, Selena Gomez is getting ready to release her next album -- but it won't feature her longtime band the Scene.

The Wall Street Journal broke the news, saying, "a spokesperson confirmed the new release won’t feature the Scene." The quote is part of a profile highlighting the many ways in which Gomez seems to be shedding her Disney princess image these days, including her bikini-clad role in the upcoming film 'Spring Breakers' and her decision to bid a final farewell to 'Wizards of Waverly Place,' the Disney Channel series that made her a household name.

The 'Waverly' franchise concludes Friday (March 15) with a one-off reunion special, titled 'The Wizards Return: Alex vs. Alex,' after which Gomez says, "I think this is it. I definitely think this is it." The special's airing coincides with the theatrical release of 'Spring Breakers,' starring Gomez and fellow ex-tween starlet Vanessa Hudgens as members of a rowdy group of girls who fall under the influence of a cornrowed, gun-toting drug dealer played by James Franco.

Current plans call for Gomez to release her new album in the summer and follow it up with a world tour. According to MTV, the set's first single, the Taylor Swift co-write 'Better Without You,' will be released Monday (March 18).
