Selena Gomez called the last two years "one of the worst chapters" of her life.

In a candid new interview with Syke on Air, the 27-year-old singer opened up about her new music and what inspired her to write the powerful breakup track  "Lose You to Love Me." Though she doesn't bring up her relationships or ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber, she does refer to her past as a "s--tshow — and if you've been following her life in recent years, it's probably the most accurate way to describe what went down.

But after undergoing a kidney transplant and ending relationships with both the "Sorry" singer and The Weeknd, it's taught Gomez a lot and made her realize her experiences shaped her into the woman she is today.

"Everything that happened within two years was a s--tshow," she explained. "I was completely thrown all over the place. Work-wise I didn't know what I was gonna do but then personally stuff happened. I think that when I finally realized that I was ready to come back was when everything was released and when everything was gone and I finally felt like I had made it through one of the worst chapters of her life."

"It takes time for you to realize that you even lost your self," Gomez continued. "The girl that I was before I even entered any sort of relationship is the girl that I want to be but now I finally feel like I've got her — just a little bit more weathered and a little bit more experienced."
