The always opinionated Snoop Dogg understands his role as a rapper in the pop world and how collaborations are paramount. The rap icon tells BlackBook magazine that when pop artists “want their records to sell, call on somebody from hip-hop to make their s--- work."

That's a bold statement there, but Snoop did take Katy Perry’s smash hit 'California Gurls' to the top of the charts last summer. "I worked with Katy because she’s a bad b----, but she needed a gangster to complete the deal. She had a cake with no candles on it, then she put me on 'California Gurls,' and it went to No. 1."

"It was actually the West Coast answer to Jay-Z and Alicia Keys' 'Empire State of Mind.' They had a song about New York, and we needed to make something about California. I didn’t prejudge her because she’s a pop singer," Snoop continues.

Katy Perry will be touring this summer with electropop princess, Robyn. The singer is also getting ready to release her video for the remix of 'E.T.,' which features rap verses from Kanye West.
