Song Of Summer 2015 Semi-Final Poll: Britney Spears and Iggy Azalea’s ‘Pretty Girls’ vs. Flo Rida’s ‘I Don’t Like It, I Love It’
Which song will reign supreme as the Song Of Summer 2015? We’re going through some of the top contenders of the year so far. Place your vote for your fave!
The results are in: Last week, Britney Spears and Iggy Azalea reigned supreme over Major Lazer and DJ Snake's "Lean On (feat. MØ)," while Flo Rida's "I Don't Like It, I Love It (feat. Robin Thicke and Verdine White)" snatched the crown from Galantis' "Peanut Butter Jelly." But now, it's time to find a winner between the two victors.
Have a listen to the two songs below, and then place your vote for the finalist to move on in this year's search for the Song Of Summer 2015. The competition is heating up fast...no pun intended. (Well, a little bit intended.)
The song: “I Don't Like It, I Love It”
The performer(s): Flo Rida, Robin Thicke, Verdine White
The producer(s): soFLY & Nius and Yoan "Oddfellow" Chirescu
The charts: Has yet to crack the Billboard 100; My House EP No. 52 as of May 20 (peaked at No. 14)
The video: No official video yet, just a lyric video that's ostensibly shot from Flo Rida's POV as he scrolls his Facebook feed and likes lots of pictures of cute girls enjoying themselves.
The reasoning: Okay, we realize that between his "Blurred Lines" legal drama and the unfortunate public attempts to win Paula Patton back, some of you may not feel it's culturally or emotionally safe to enjoy Robin Thicke again. But hear us (and the song) out! The third single from Flo Rida's very strong My House EP is a bouncy affair complete with carefree whistles in the chorus and a funk injection courtesy of Earth, Wind & Fire bassist Verdine White. It's got all the ingredients of a summer anthem — to paraphrase the title of George Michael's 1990 album, listen without prejudice. Just let it wash over you, and don't resist the instinct to dance in your chair.
The song: "Pretty Girls"
The performer(s): Britney Spears & Iggy Azalea
The producer(s): The Invisible Men
The charts: No. 29 on the Billboard Hot 100 (peak position to date)
The video: Earth Girls Are Easy-inspired alien-turned-Valley Girl shenanigans. And totally good acting. Like, total-lay.
The reasoning: Let's just get it out of the way now: Yes, "Pretty Girls" sounds a whole lot like last year's Song Of The Summer, "Fancy." It also happens to feature the same artist who made that song popular (I-G-G-Y), as well as the same production team (The Invisible Men). That being said, the pretty girl empowerment anthem has enough of its own cool and funky charm! The campy cut features The Holy Spearit serving up old school Adlibney (those runs at the end!) and undeniable earworms ("Like bees to the hon-ay!"). The song supplies more than enough sass to provide the soundtrack to countless nights out on the town with all your pretty girls in tow. So pret-tay!
The time has come to decide: Which of these two songs will move onto the next round? Vote now!
Voting ends at 5 PM on June 2. Go, go, go!
