Born in 1993, Niall Horan is the only Irish member of the otherwise English boy band sensation One Direction. Before auditioning for The X Factor in 2010, Horan grew up playing guitar and singing in his school choir. When Horan did try out for the English reality talent competition series, he was only 16 years old. Although he didn’t make the cut as a solo act, the judges soon paired him with One Direction’s other soon-to-be members: Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne and Zayn Malik. Together, they released their debut effort, Up All Night, a year later in 2011. Since then, 1D have taken the world by storm with their teen heartthrob status and infectious pop catalog, including three more internationally successful albums over the next three years.
