Fans of 'The Maze Runner' will be excited to learn that the sequel, titled 'The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials,' has been given the go ahead. Variety reports that the film will be prepped and shot in time for a Sept. 18, 2015 release.

The first movie, which opened last Friday, Sept. 19, took in over $32.5 million in the United States during its first weekend and opened at No. 1. 'The Maze Runner' cast included a wide range of young talent, including Dylan O'Brien, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Kaya Scodelario and Ki Hong Lee.

20th Century Fox will once again finance and distribute the sequel which is based on the novel by James Dashner. 'The Scorch Trials' continues the story from 'The Maze Runner' in which the surviving characters are put through a series of new challenges through a burnt out and desolate area of the planet.

Director Wes Ball will return to direct the picture.
