Drake Sets New Record, Leads 2016 American Music Awards Noms

Joe Jonas and Rachel Platten announced the nominations for the upcoming 2016 American Music Awards during a broadcast on Good Morning America today (October 10). Not only did Drake earn an impressive 13 nominations, he effectively shattered a 32-year record previously held by Michael Jackson.

The Views rapper — who’s up for Artist of the Year, Favorite Male Artist, Favorite Rap Song and Favorite Album, among others — beat Jackson’s previous record of 11 nominations, which was set back in 1984, according to Billboard.

Rihanna, meanwhile, came in second with seven nominations -- including Artist of the Year, Favorite Female Artist (Soul/R&B) and Song of the Year (Soul/R&B) -- while Adele and Justin Bieber are both nominated for five awards each.
