9/11 Anniversary: Pop Stars Tweet in Memory of Those Lost
Today (9/11) marks the 11th anniversary of the coordinated terror attacks on the U.S., where commercial airliners were turned into missiles and flown into landmark buildings like the Twin Towers in NYC and the Pentagon in Virginia, with one diverted into a field in Pennsylvania. Approximately 3,000 souls were lost on that unseasonably warm, late summer Tuesday morning in 2001 and the pain is still fresh and acute for many pop stars, despite the passage of time.
Native New Yorkers like Mariah Carey, Diddy and Lady Gaga tweeted their notes of love and strength, while others, like Phillip Phillips and Trey Songz weighed in with their thoughts and feeling on this somber day. Travis Barker of Blink-182's tweet was especially important, since he himself survived a plane crash.
The prevailing theme was that despite a decade-plus passing, we will never forget.
Below is a collection of 9/11 remembrance tweets.
