Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine took his sweet time filling out the final five spots on his eight-strong singing team on the second week of 'The Voice.' In fact, when all the other coaches had their spots filled, he still had two more to go.

Levine, who was also among the more selective coaches in last week's immensely popular debut of the singing competition, actually moved pretty quickly in adding his first hopeful of the evening. Devon Barley, a 19-year old medical student whose parents weren't exactly thrilled with his musical career aspirations, was the second to perform.  Levine and co-coach Cee Lo Green both turned around for his performance of Jason Mraz's 'I'm Yours' (remember the rules?). But Levine swayed him by stating, "As a singer, I just love tone, and I felt that initially when I heard you. There's a lot of character in your voice."

The jean-jacket clad star was responsible for one of the more humorous moments of the evening, when he bravely, if not tactfully, admitted to mistaking the gender of one of the contestants. He chose angelic-voiced Tim Mahoney after his performance of Sam Cooke's 'Bring it on Home to Me,' only to confess: "I thought you were a chick. Clearly, you are not a woman. Sadly, you have a penis." (It was lighthearted, and he was simply looking to round out his team a bit.) Anyway, Levine was the only one to chose Mahoney, so if he wants him to wear a dress next week the poor guy probably better shave.

We'd love to tell you the story of Levine's third choice, Casey Desmond, but all we were shown was a brief clip of her singing Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' -- which is weird, because they showed the full performance of a couple of singers who were not chosen by anyone.

So then, after all the competitors had taken their turns, Levine still had two spots to fill. So a handful of the passed-on singers were given second choices, and he selected 18-year old Casey Weston (who did a good job with Keith Urban's 'Stupid Boy') and 25-year-old Georgia peach Angela Wolff, who whiffed earlier in the night on Miranda Lambert's 'The House That Built Me' but connected with Adele's 'Rolling in the Deep.'

And with that, the night was done not just for Levine, but for everyone except us hard-working writers. Next week, Levine's eight team members will get paired up to do battle against one another in what host Carson Daly breathlessly refers to as "the Battle Rounds." It looks like Levine and his team will have some heartbreak of their own to deal with.
