Ariana Grande ‘Sick’ Over Jussie Smollett Attack News
Ariana Grande spoke out in support fo Jussie Smollett after the Empire actor was attacked in Chicago.
The "7 Rings" singer tweeted about the incident on Tuesday, writing that it make her "f---ing sick." She added that she was in shock that racist and homophobic attacks are "still happening everyday."
"What happened to jussie makes me really f---ing sick to my stomach," she wrote. "i can't believe s--- like this is really still happening everyday. what kind of world ? sending all of the healing energy / love i possibly can and hoping for change. what can we do ? tell me & i'm here."
Grande is one of many celebrities, including his co-stars, Janet Jackson, Viola Davis, Shonda Rhimes, Ella Mai, Khloe Kardashian and more, who have shown their support. Smollett has not yet returned to social media, and it's unclear when he will.
Smollett, 35, was attacked in Chicago by two white men, said to be wearing ski masks as they approached him. They were shouting racial and homophobic epithets at him before they began beating him. The unidentified attackers are said to have wrapped a noose around Smollett's neck and thrown an "unknown chemical substance" on him.
TMZ reported that Smollett fought back, but was injured in the attack. He was left with a fractured rib from the scuffle. His attackers reportedly shouted, "This is MAGA country!" before running off.
Police are investigating the incident as a potential hate crime. They have yet to find the men responsible for this atrocious act.
