Did BTS’ Suga Predict the Group’s 2019 Grammy Nomination?
BTS was nominated for a Grammy Award on Friday, but it may not have come as a surprise to the K-pop super group.
In May 2018 the boy band held a press conference to discuss their album Love Yourself: Tear, during which they were asked about their future goals. BTS frontman RM said at the time he was hopeful they could "reach No. 1 on the Billboard 200," while Suga had dreams of something more.
"Although part of me feels as though we may be talking about dreams that are too large in scale, I also think that it's a good thing to dream big," he said during the press conference. "We want to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and the Billboard 200, and we want to go to the Grammy Awards."
He continued, "We also want to do a stadium tour, and we want to become one of the most influential singers all over the world. Because [these dreams] are so hard to achieve, it's not east to say them out loud -- but now that we've said them out loud, we might as well try to reach them."
BTS has achieved all that and more. Both their 2018 albums hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart and in June, they sold out their first United States stadium tour in a matter of minutes and they've been named the most tweeted about musicians on U.S. Twitter. Now, they're nominated for their first Grammy.
On Friday the K-pop group was nominated for Best Recording Package. They're up against Mitski, St Vincent, The Chairman and Foxhole in the category. Fans will just have to wait until the 2019 Grammy Awards in February to find out if they won.
