Joe Jonas, Sophie Turner + More Slam Article Claiming Priyanka + Nick’s Wedding Was a Sham
Sophie Turner, Joe Jonas and more are furious after The Cut published and later retracted and article suggesting Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas' relationship is fake.
In the piece, author Mariah Smith suggested the Quantico star's marriage to Jonas, 26, was purely strategic. In a particularly viral snippet from the now-deleted article, Smith wrote: "All Nick [Jonas] wanted was a possible fling with Hollywood's latest It Woman, but instead he wound up staring straight at a life sentence with a global scam artist."
Readers were incensed by the opinion piece, slamming it as xenophobic, racist and baseless. Before long, the story caught the eye of celebrities, including some close to Chopra, 36, and Jonas.
Turner, 22, took to Twitter to address the piece, writing that it was "wildly inappropriate and totally disgusting." She went on to say she was, "Very disappointed that The Cut would give anyone a platform to spew such bulls---."
The Game of Thrones star's fiancé, who also happens to be Jonas' older brother, also had something to say about The Cut's story. Joe Jonas tweeted that the outlet should "be ashamed to have someone write such evil words."
Outrage over the article has been widespread, with several Bollywood stars and other Indian public figures speaking out about how appalled they were by its publication. Sonam Kapoor said the piece "reeks of envy and bitterness." Sona Mohapatra called the article "deeply disgusting" and "sick."
She tweeted, "For a publication that 'shows women's [SIC] what they are made of " @TheCut has a lot to answer for . The article on @PriyankaChopra was sexist , racist and disgusting. Also it's written by a woman which is so sad. It reeks of envy and bitterness. @mRih shame on you!"
The Cut removed the piece from their site. The writer has not issued an apology or statement of any kind.
