Celine Dion, Most of Hollywood Won’t Perform at Donald Trump Inauguration
Here's Hoping you fondly recall Kelly Clarkson's or Aretha Franklin's booming performances at Barack Obama's inaugurations — when Donald Trump becomes the President of the United States, it might be to the sound of relative silence.
According to The Wrap, Celine Dion has joined a long list of singers who refuse to perform at Trump's January 20 inauguration. Trump's personal friend, hotel magnate Steve Wynn, had reportedly guaranteed Dion to the event's production, but both she and Garth Brooks — who also has ties with Wynn — said thanksbutnothanks.
Elton John, Kiss and Andrea Bocelli have also previously declined performance spots at the ceremony, though it was originally reported that Bocelli would consider performing.
Sixteen-year-old America's Got Talent standout Jackie Evancho, will, however, perform and, as of today (December 22), so will the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The group has previously delivered sets at five other presidential inaugurations — including George H. W. Bush's and Richard Nixon's — and President Ron Jarrett said the group is looking forward to keeping the legacy alive.
"The Mormon Tabernacle Choir has a great tradition of performing at the inaugurals of U.S. presidents," Jarrett said. "Singing the music of America is one of the things we do best. We are honored to be able to serve our country by providing music for the inauguration of our next president."
