Controversial: Couple Charges Guests $333 to Attend Their Wedding
The planning and high costs of weddings can stress out any future bride and groom, physically, mentally and emotionally — and of course, financially.
Weddings ain't cheap: According to Zola.com, the average wedding costs about $33,000. Granted, that price can fluctuate either way, depending on location, guests and what you have planned.
But to make up some of the heavy spending, one couple decided to charge guests $333 to attend their wedding.
What?!
Nova and Reemo Styles came up with what they thought was the best and most creative way to spend less on their big day.
For $333, you'd get to ride on a double-decker bus tour through New York City, which is a 12-hour excursion (if you were going to book that yourself, it would be about $90 per person).
So if it's you and your date, you're getting what you paid for, but tacking on another $150 for the bride and groom to cover other expenses.
Ahead of the wedding, the bride-to-be tried to explain their decision.
"People choose to go to Beyoncé concert, because they know that they're gonna have an experience," she says. "Let's put the stress on the guests, and let's sell tickets for a wedding."
Her husband didn't think that was the best idea at first — he didn't think people would come. He said people would say, '"I would never spend money on tickets. I don't care. Who do you guys think you are? Jay-Z and Beyoncé?'"
In the end, it doesn't even matter, because the couple had a beautiful wedding and they saved a whopping $70,000 on their big day.
Could this be the future of weddings, making your guest buy tickets? Might only work if you could have Dan + Shay show up to perform live at the reception.
