Ellen DeGeneres Apologizes to Jenna Dewan After Accidentally Calling Her ‘Tatum’
Fans are still adjusting to Jenna Dewan and Channing Tatum's split — Ellen DeGeneres' included.
While introducing the World of Dance star on her show, DeGeneres' accidentally called Dewan by her married name, later apologizing for the slip-up.
"I have to say, before we go to break, I’m so sorry,” the daytime host said. “I introduced you and it was such a habit, and I have to say the way that you and Channing are handling everything is beautiful for your daughter and the statements have been great. And I apologize.”
Dewan, who announced her separation from Tatum in April after nine years of marriage, took the mishap in stride.
“Honestly, thank you and everybody for all the love and support," she said. "It’s truly, so amazing. It’s all love!”
The flub comes three weeks after the dancer and actress changed her social media name from "Jenna Dewan Tatum" back to "Jenna Dewan," and exactly one month after she and Tatum broke the news of their breakup.
"We have lovingly chosen to separate as a couple,” the pair wrote in a joint statement shared to Twitter and Instagram. "There are no secrets nor salacious events at the root of our decision — just two best-friends realizing it’s time to take some space and help each other live the most joyous, fulfilled lives as possible."
Back in November, Dewan revealed on Live! With Kelly and Ryan that she hadn't even wanted to take Tatum's name in the first place, but did so because it was important to him.
"It was a little bit of an issue," she explained. "Channing is very traditional. I'm kind of not. My family was very liberal and that wasn't a thing, but to him it was very important ... He's still kind of miffed that I didn't just take Tatum. For some reason, it was really hard for me to let go of my given name."
It's no surprise, then, that she's gone back to just Dewan now that they're no longer together.
