Heidi Montag: I “Died for a Minute” During My Plastic Surgery
Heidi Montag says that she almost died while undergoing surgery nearly ten years ago.
The Hills alum and former Celebrity Big Brother contestant opens up about her controversial 2009 cosmetic surgery—in which she underwent a number of drastic procedures, including a breast augmentation, a chin reduction and brow lift—in the new issue of PAPER magazine. In the interview, the Superficial singer also reveals that she "died for a minute" during the surgery.
"Spencer thought he lost me. I died for a minute. With that much surgery, I had to have 24-hour nurse care and Spencer didn’t want to leave my side. I was at a recovery center and had Demerol to deal with the pain because it was so extreme," she recalls.
Montag's husband Spencer Pratt, also a former cast member of The Hills, was told his wife was "not going to make it," she shares, adding that these days, she warns others about the dangers of going under the knife.
"My security guards called Spencer and told him, ‘Heidi’s heart stopped. She’s not going to make it.’ And I easily could’ve [died]...Cutting yourself up isn’t something I’d recommend, and Demerol isn’t anything to play around with. That’s how Michael Jackson died," she adds.
Even though she looks back at the surgery with regret, even calling it a "huge mistake," the new mom believes "a lot of positive things" ultimately came out of the experience.
"had to look at myself in the mirror every day healing, and be like, 'What did I do to myself? How did I get here? What is going on?' I basically had to hit that rock-bottom moment in my life, to realize what was important to me."
