Jack Antonoff's Rough Customer has made a very wise first transaction.

The Bleachers frontman's publishing company — a joint venture with Sony/ATV — has signed singer-songwriter-producer Grimes (real name Claire Boucher) as its inaugural artist, according to Billboard. Antonoff said in a statement that he couldn't have foreseen a better lead-in to what he hopes will be a talented roster.

"I wanted to start a publishing company to work with friends who are making important work," he said. "It really couldn't be more special to start things with Claire. She's one of my all-time favorite artists and a wonderful person. Her work matters on the highest level and I feel deeply proud to know her, have worked with her and now be involved here as well."

As Rough Customer grows and evolves, Antonoff said he hopes the venture will keep its focus on talent and artistry and avoid business-minded decisions. His manager Tyler Childs noted Antonoff's hoping to cultivate a "modern Laurel Canyon scene."

"I am creating a community with [songwriters] banding together to have the opportunity to support one another," Antonoff said.

Grimes' most recent album, 2015's Art Angels, was critically acclaimed and sold more than 50,000 units in the United States.
