Dammn, Baby? Janet Jackson Postponed Tour to ‘Start a Family’
Janet Jackson shared some big news on Facebook this morning (April 6): She wants to be a mom, and she's postponed her Unbreakable World Tour to do start making that happen.
In a video posted to her Facebook page, she first thanked fans for coming to her Unbreakable World Tour (you're welcome!), which kicked off on August 31, 2015. Then she got right to it.
"We're in the second leg of the tour, and there actually has been a sudden change. I thought it was important that you be the first to know," she told the camera, before taking a deep breath and breaking into a grin. "My husband and I are planning our family! So I'm gonna have to delay the tour."
Jackson married 41-year-old Qatari billionaire Wissam Al Mana, a fashion retailer, in 2012.
"Please, if you can try and understand that it's important that I do this now," the singer continued, possibly alluding to the fact that she's 49. "I have to rest up, doctor's orders, but I have not forgotten about you. I will continue the tour as soon as I possibly can."
Jackson thanked her dancers, her band and crew, Live Nation and her fans, saying "it's truly been a long journey, and you guys have been there each and every step of the way. I really do appreciate that."
After announcing she'd have to postpone some concert dates for surgery back in December, Jackson also postponed the UK and European leg. Ticket holders were told that refunds would be issued, as "scheduling difficulties" had prevented rescheduling.
The "All For You" singer's mention of "doctor's orders" had both fans and media outlets speculating that she's pregnant already, while Twitter reactions show a mix of disappointment over missing their chance to see Jackson live. There are also plenty of people worrying /judging/joking about her age, though Jackson would hardly be the first female celebrity to welcome a child at a later-than-average time (and wealthy people are afforded a wider range of reproductive options than most). Former model Cheryl Tiegs, for example, had twins at 52 via surrogate.
