Rosie O’Donnell Willing to Play Steve Bannon on ‘SNL’ to Enrage Donald Trump
Rosie O'Donnell is willing and eager to incite the ire of President Donald Trump by portraying White House chief strategist, Steve Bannon, in an upcoming episode of Saturday Night Live should she be requested to do so.
"Available -- if called i will serve !!!" the former View co-host tweeted last night (February 6), in response to a fan who brought up the potential casting.
"I am here to serve - Alec [Baldwin] has trump - Melissa [McCarthy] has spice[r] - i would need a few days to prepare - so if called - i will be ready," she wrote to another fan who expressed a similar desire to see O'Donnell's Bannon impression on the sketch comedy show.
Melissa McCarthy's SNL portrayal of White House press secretary Sean Spicer was instantly met with critical acclaim from TV and comedy critics across the board. Spicer himself responded positively to the impersonation -- though he also offered some criticism in the process, advising McCarthy "to slow down on the gum chewing; way too many pieces in there" and to "dial back" on her characterization.
But according to a recent Politico article, Trump was most upset with the character's cross-gender casting:
More than being lampooned as a press secretary who makes up facts, it was Spicer’s portrayal by a woman that was most problematic in the president’s eyes, according to sources close to him.
Further, a source reportedly told the publication: "Trump doesn't like his people to look weak."
