On tonight's episode of 'American Idol,' comedian-actor Russell Brand showed up in the pre-taped segment to give the hopefuls some advice on important elements of performing -- like stage presence and how to pull off ambitious physical movements! The concept of singing and dancing has come up quite a bit this season, so Brand's appearance was a worthwhile exercise.

Brand, dressed in skintight black skinny jeans and a grey leather jacket, demonstrated the high leg kick, and we were worried he might split his pants.

Brand also referred to judge Steven Tyler as "Steve," a faux pas committed by Jennifer Lopez earlier this year! Tyler even corrected her on air and said he prefers to be called "Steven!" Brand must not have been watching that early episode!

Contestant James Durbin asked Brand what it takes to be a great rock frontman, and he was able to advise accordingly, having believably portrayed a rocker in last summer's 'Get Him to the Greek.' He is, after all, married to one of the biggest pop stars in the world -- Katy Perry.

"I am glad I took part in this experience. They seemed looser and a little more joyous," Brand says. However, someone won't be so joyous tonight when the elimination results come in!
