Bullying is never okay, but for Sam Smith one particular insult hurts more than any other.

The singer, who recently revealed his dramatic weight loss, appeared on 60 Minutes to talk about his lifelong struggle with body image.

"Two years ago I got punched in the neck and one year ago I got called a 'f-----'," he said. But the homophobic slur didn't faze him like another cruel remark. "If someone called me fat, that affects me way more than somebody calling me a 'f-----'," he said.

Sam went on to explain. "If someone calls me a 'f-----,' it's like, but I am gay and I'm proud to be gay so there's no issue," he said. "If someone calls you 'fat' it's like, that's something I want to change, that's something I can change. That affects me more."

Sam opened up about how his weight has always been a concern for him. "Food has controlled me, basically," he said. "When I was at school and I wasn't having a great time or when music wasn't going very well, I would eat, and eating made me feel better. When I felt lonely I would eat."
