Update, 10/2: According to NME, "Writing's on the Wall" has reached No. 1 on the United Kingdom's Single Chart, becoming the first James Bond theme song to achieve the honor. "I feel like I'm In a dream. To have the honour to do Bond is one thing but to get the first ever NUMBER ONE for a bond song is another thing entirely," Sam Smith, who wrote and performed the song, posted to an Instagram photo after the news broke.

James Bond may still look like the same ol' white guy, but as of this morning (September 25), he's got a brand new sound.

After teasing the release of the upcoming Spectre theme song earlier this week, Sam Smith officially released "Writing's on the Wall" with his Twitter following this morning, and it's a perfect complement to the Bond catalog's existing brassy tunes. You can download "Writing's on the Wall" on iTunes now.

"Unprepared for this / I never shoot to miss / But I feel like a storm is coming / If I'm gonna make it through the day, then there's no more use in running / This is something that I gotta say," Smith prepares listeners before diving into a falsetto-heavy chorus.

"Thank you for all your amazing messages," he tweeted just after "Writing's" release. "Today is such a special day for me and I am so grateful to everyone supporting this track xx,"

Earlier this week, Smith told Billboard that writing and recording the song was one of the highlights of his career, and that he couldn't wait to share it.

Spectre will hit theaters in November.
