She wasn't performing a concert, but Harvard University students packed (and sold out) the Sanders Theater anyway, just to see Shakira accept an award for Artist of the Year in conjunction with the school's annual Cultural Rhythms festival on Saturday.

The Colombian 'Hips Don't Lie' superstar is not just a Grammy winner, she's a humanitarian, too. The Harvard Foundation awarded Shakira Artist of the Year because of both her musical talent and work alongside the Barefoot Foundation, which pushes for improved education and nutrition for kids in impoverished areas.

Shakira appeared in person to accept the award -- and in addition to a 15-minute speech, she laughed, danced with the Harvard performers and pushed students to achieve their dreams.

"It's not everyday I'm presented with an opportunity to talk with a group of people that soon will plant relevant ideas in the heads and hearts of generations to come," Shakira said.

And it's not everyday that someone -- who can shake it like Shakira does -- is honored with the award, which is  given to artists, scientists, and leaders in honor of outstanding humanitarian work. Past award winners include Will Smith, Matt Damon and Wyclef Jean, among others.
