K-pop fans are sharing their frustrations following the bizarre announcement of Simon Cowell's upcoming X-Factor spinoff show.

The 60-year-old music mogul challenged K-pop's global rise when he posted a video to social media announcing his new reality competition show, X-Factor: The Band.

"Right now, K-pop you could argue is ruling the world. Now it's time for UK-pop," Cowell said to the camera. Many fans were upset and offended by the comment, which made it seem like Cowell is trying to minimize K-pop's impact and "make it white," according to one reaction off Twitter.

"We have weeks to get this together," Cowell continued.  "Very simply, we are going to find either the biggest boy group in the world, or the biggest girl group in the world."

"And you've got days to enter. We've done it before, we're gonna do it again," he added, referring to his success with creating the group One Direction during Season 7 of X-Factor U.K.

The new television show will air in December, though a specific release date has not yet been confirmed.

This new show comes on the heels of Cowell's announcement that he will be axing his X-Factor All-Stars show, which was set to feature former winners Leona Lewis and Alexandra Burke.

The green-lit spinoff will go up against one of Cowell's former protégés, Little Mix, who are launching a new talent competition show called The Search that will air on BBC. The girl group recently had a falling out with Cowell and their management team following their fourth album release on his record label, Syco.

For fans interested in applying for Cowell's show, you must be sixteen years of age and can audition via WhatsApp or Itv.com.
