‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ Causes Big Boost in Streaming Numbers for Whitney, Britney and More Pop Queens
Sasha Velour's ninth season win on RuPaul's Drag Race took place about a month ago, but it looks like her finale performance of Whitney Houston's "So Emotional" is still helping the late icon's streaming numbers.
Billboard took Sasha's tweet (above), worked the numbers and realized that she was right — and that was only a part of the story.
"So Emotional" wasn't the only track to see a spike in streaming numbers: thanks to RuPaul's Drag Race, the songs used in this season's Lip Sync For Your Life showdowns saw boosts in audio and video streams, including the finale.
After the June 29th performance of "So Emotional," the Whitney song increased 510 percent in streaming. Whitney's "It's Not Right But It's Okay" also saw a 190 percent spike following Sasha's battle with Peppermint during the finale.
Britney Spears, Ariana Grande and Meghan Trainor also saw increases in the audio and video streams of their music after the queens lip synced for their lives on the Emmy-nominated show.
