BTS Were Just Awarded With This Incredibly Culturally Significant Medal
From history makers to culture shakers: On Wednesday (October 24), the South Korean government awarded BTS a medal for their contribution to the promotion of spreading Korean culture around the globe.
Members of the superstar music group were awarded individual Order of Cultural Merit medals by South Korea's Cultural Minister Do Jong-hwan during a ceremony at the Olympic Hall in Seoul, making them the youngest recipients of the honor.
While accepting the medal, group leader RM "attributed the glory" of the honor to the ARMY, BTS' fans, according to the Korea Times.
Suga added that he plans to "make [an] effort to let Korean culture spread worldwide with the heart of a national representative."
The septet had just returned earlier in the day following their 52-day Love Yourself World Tour across North America and Europe.
"You’re great artists on the grounds that you are affecting the people’s lives," Minister Do reportedly said during the ceremony. "Korean pop culture has given people around world fresh and new cultural shocks. As new cultural contents, K-pop and K-drama have changed people’s daily lives and are evolving into a new Hallyu [Korean wave]."
BTS' Love Yourself World Tour will resume November 13 in Tokyo.
