Brazilian Pop Star Gabriel Diniz Dead Following Plane Crash
Brazilian pop star Gabriel Diniz is dead at 28 following a plane crash. On Monday, May 27, the singer was on his way to his girlfriend Karoline Calheiros' birthday party when his plane crashed, PEOPLE reports.
The plane crashed along the southern coast of Brazil in Porto Do Mato, Estância. Military police in Brazil told local news outlets that the plane's pilots, Linaldo Xavier and Abraão Farias, also died in the crash.
Universal Music Brazil shared a statement about Diniz's passing. "It is with great sorrow that we received the confirmation of the tragic death of the singer and composer Gabriel Diniz who was part of the Universal Music Brasil family," the statement reads, translated to English.
"One of the greatest artists on the rise in Brazil, a very talented, beam of light, one of the most joyful people I've ever met," company president Paulo Lima states in the message. "The Universal Music family cries for its loss. Rest in peace, my friend. May your songs be eternalized and help us soften our pain. Sending strength and comfort for all of his family and friends."
The label's statement ends with these words: "Distressed with this sad news, Universal Music Brazil stands in solidarity with family and friends of the singer."

The singer's final Instagram post was haunting. Translated to English, the caption reads, "Always a joy to return to Feira de Santana and be greeted with such joy and with so much positive energy. Thank you for the kindness… until next time, God willing."
