Despite Taylor Swift's best efforts, it looks like Ian McKellen won't be joining her continually growing collection of celebrity pals any time soon.

According to Billboard, the "Blank Space" singer invited McKellen to join her onstage during a stop on her current 1989 World Tour, but he was too busy to attend.

When asked by Gay Star News how it felt to be part of Taylor’s ‘squad,' McKellen answered, "I’m not. When I was living in Peter Jackson’s apartment in New York, Taylor Swift bought it while I was there and I was thrown out before I wanted to leave! That hardly puts me in Taylor Swift’s team, does it? You look shocked.”

Despite what it sounds like (Taylor kicking McKellen out on the street!? Cue shock and awe) there doesn't seem to be any, ahem, "Bad Blood" between the two. McKellen explained further, saying, "[Laughs] She bought it, she had every right to – I was just lodging there for free! She did ask me to appear with Patrick Stewart at her show in LA, but I had something else to do that night."

Taylor's invite most likely stemmed from the time earlier this summer when both McKellen and Patrick Stewart did dramatic readings of the lyrics from two of Taylor’s songs — "Bad Blood" and "Blank Space," respectively.

She even tweeted about it, writing, "Thanks for reciting my lyrics, @IanMcKellen and @SirPatStew! You've made my day. You two are ULTIMATE Squad Goals."

Better luck next celeb, Taylor!
