Miley Cyrus’ Squad Goals Don’t Include Joining Taylor Swift’s
Miley Cyrus may have sided with Taylor Swift in the "Wildest Dreams" singer's now fully smoothed-over spat with Nicki Minaj, but that doesn't mean you'll catch her lounging on an inflatable swan in Taylor's pool anytime soon.
In a New York Times article about Miley's surprise free album, Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz, the 2015 VMAs host held forth on Taylor's ever-widening circle of famous friends — and whether she'd be joining up anytime soon. Miley addressed Taylor's handpicked throng of “musicians, actresses, models, entrepreneurs," saying, "I'm not trying to be in the squad."
"None of my friends are famous and not because of any other reason than I just like real people who are living real lives, because I’m inspired by them,” she continued. That statement's not entirely accurate — plenty of people would consider Miley's Victoria's Secret model friend (and sometime love interest) Stella Maxwell famous, even if she's not quite the household name that Taylor's VMAs red carpet cohorts are. But, point taken: She's not a celebrity friend hoarder. Got it.
Miley did go on to gush about another famous-if-not-super-famous friend, her recent collaborator Wayne Coyne.
She said of the eccentric Flaming Lips frontman, "He’s everything in the world — you can’t even define us.” She went on to say, “I am 100 percent in love with Wayne, and Wayne is in love with me, but it’s nothing sexual in any way. That would be the grossest.” Close observers of Miley's Instagram activity know that Coyne's much-younger girlfriend Katy Weaver is one of Miley's most frequent partners in crime. According to Miley's comment above, the three of them aren't involved in some southern Californian, free love, happy hippie trinogamous relationship, so get your mind out of the gutter, pervs!
Miley says there's another reason she and Wayne are kindred spirits, and it makes nothing but straight-up sense (if you're the type to believe in things like "animal psychics," that is). Discussing her grief over her late dog Floyd, she says, "I really think, in a way, his energy went into Wayne’s energy. What he was to me, Wayne has become."
