Jelly Roll isn't afraid to open about his troubled past in his music, which helps his fans overcome their own obstacles.

However, when the rapper-turned-country superstar is feeling down, what artist does he find refuge in?

While promoting the release of his new album, Beautifully Broken, Jelly Roll revealed country legend Toby Keith's music has helped get him through dark times in his life.

Specifically, it's the late singer's tune "Cryin' For Me" that soothes his soul, and helped him "grieve" the loss of his father Buddy, who passed away in 2019 from cancer.

"Toby Keith’s ‘I’m gonna miss that smile, I’m gonna miss you my friend.’ It got me through the death of my father. I listened to that song everyday. So I know how music can do that," he said on the Jay Shetty Podcast.

The CMA Entertainer of the Year nominee is also honoring his dad by naming a part of his new venture after him in the soon-to-be bar, Jelly Roll's Goodnight Nashville.

Jelly Roll also kept it real on how he feels about his music being used to help others overcome obstacles in their life.

"We go to prisons all the time and play and we go to homeless shelters, but you catch somebody during those first 10 days, cause I know what those 10 days are. To know that’s the song ['Save Me'] that’s getting people through that particular stretch...," he told host Jay Shetty.

"It’s like when they told me ‘Save Me’ is becoming the new ‘Free Bird’ of the south for funeral homes. They say they get more requests for ‘Save Me’ now, and that used to really bum me out and make me sad. But then I started thinking about how much that’s helping people grieve," Jelly Roll added.

"Free Bird" is the 1973 smash hit by legendary rock group Lynyrd Skynyrd.
